Developing a Different Kind of Coach
At our core, Soccer Genome is about developing a specific type of coach—one who can curate a training environment that is unmistakably Soccer Genome. In an industry saturated with outdated dogma, fragmented pathways, and endless options, we’ve built a system that produces a completely different kind of coach: a cross-functional, emotionally intelligent, tactically fluent expert generalist shaped by the SG ecosystem.
We obsess daily over every element of our coaching system—how we select coaches, the blend of skills, traits, and behaviors we prioritize, what we incentivize, and, most importantly, how we connect with our players.
The result? A type of coach—and a style of coaching—you won’t find anywhere else.
Intentional Selection: Coaching the Right Way Starts with the Right People
We prioritize four key character traits in every coach we hire:
Emotional intelligence, growth mindset, dynamic communication, and energetic leadership .
No amount of collegiate or pro playing experience can compensate for a deficit in any of these.
Emotional Intelligence
Our coaches must connect with players on an emotional level. Soccer is a communal game, but that experience looks different across ages and stages. Our coaches must model emotional intelligence and adapt their approach to match every step of a player’s journey, regardless of where they are at in their journey.Growth-Oriented
We value coaches who are relentless learners—committed to growing personally and professionally both on and off the field.Dynamic Communicator
Great coaches are great communicators. We only hire those who can speak and listen with intention, and adapt their message across varied settings, ages, and skill levels.Energetic Leader
SG coaches lead by example. They take extreme ownership of every session and embody our core values in everything they do.
The SG Coaching Model: Expert Generalists
Unlike traditional club systems, our coaches don’t manage siloed teams based on age or skill tier. Our full-time coaches work across the entire player journey. (Click here to meet our coaches!) On any given day, an SG coach might train a U6 recreational player, a U11 challenge-level player, a U18 ECNL athlete, and a Division 1 college player.
They lead over 35 unique sessions per week—from introductory training to advanced, position-specific sessions. Whether 1-on-1 or in small group environments of up to 15 players, SG coaches deliver high-impact, developmentally appropriate training every single day.
The Game Is King
Our priorities are different from traditional team-centric programs. We focus on the player—and their experience of the game—above all else.
We help players experience soccer in its fullness: its ups and downs, its wins and defeats. Our aim is to guide them through that journey with skill, joy, and emotional connection. Because each stage of development demands something different, our coaches are uniquely trained to meet players exactly where they are.
